LFC : 2 faced Liverpool

Suarez scored but couldn't help the Reds to achieve their first win in the opening game of the new season. There was doubt earlier whether the Uruguayan will start since he was busy during the summer break. King Kenny thought otherwise and named him in the starting 11.

Suarez earlier missed a penalty after he was taken down by Sunderland's Richardson inside the box. I'd say the yellow card shown to Richardson was 'a bit lucky' for the lad. In some other occasions it would have been a sent-off!

Liverpool dominated the 1st half and it was thought that there might be a second. It never did. Carroll did managed to put a goal in the back of the net but was ruled out due to an infringement inside the box. Replays however showed that the goal should have been given.

The 'new kids on the block' got their premier league debut for Liverpool, not including Doni, had a decent game. Charlie Adam assisted for the goal, had 1 shot straight to the keeper. Downing had a shot that rattled the bar. Enrique had a solid game at left back. Henderson played decently, I thought. Overall it was a good game. The only disappointment is the result which could have been better.

Some were quizzing Suarez-Carroll partnership but I thought they were brilliant. It's the 2nd half performances from the team that was a let down. The players never really did managed to replicate their first half display. They let Sunderland came back into the game. Too many loose balls and too many free kicks were given. Even King Kenny was disappointed that his team didn't managed to bagged in the 3 points.

Liverpool had the better chances compared to Sunderland. We could see Downing putting in some dangerous crosses into the box. Same has to be said for Enrique. Carroll had 6 shots off target. At least he is in the right position to score. We even see how the corners that was whipped in by Adam. In the long run, this can be the ingredients for Liverpool to score more goals.

Finally, it's not the weekend that I have hoped for. But a draw is better than to lose. Next is an away game to Arsenal. With what that has been presented during the 1st 45 minutes, if the lads can maintain it for the whole 90 minutes, Liverpool can be 'scary' this season. Better performance and better result next week.

YNWA.
