Bright future - Brendan babes

A month ago, in the opening fixture of the new season of the Barclays Premier League the same opponent at the same venue, Liverpool v West Brom and after their great work during the summer, all hopes were for the boys to get their first 3 points. 90 minutes and hopes were shattered. Not only we lost with a score of 0-3, we had Agger red carded too!

Brendan Rodgers fielded a young side and having won comfortably during the league's fixture Steve Clarke and his men had a psychological advantage. It seemed that way when Liverpool were trailing very early in the game.

A free kick was awarded after Wisdom committed a foul. A ball was floated into the box and Brad Jones could not handle it properly leaving it for Tamas to tuck the ball home. It was almost like the 1st meeting, Jones was fuming and the body language of some players does not look promising. I thought Liverpool was going to be slaughtered again.

It never happened. The boys gained their composure and not soon after that a good shot from Nuri Sahin gave Liverpool the equalizer and the boys dominated the game with some scintillating play.

2nd half started and West Brom tried to find another goal. The young Reds hung on and Sahin scored the winner 8 minutes from time. A good surging run from another promising youngster, Suso, laid a pass to Assaidi who crossed the ball for Sahin to tap it in.

Considering we are still work in progress, West Brom must have had a shock last night. They thought with a young team fielded they could have gone through to the next round of the competition. Yeah, BR did change the personnel, but I am more interested on the way the team played.

We have not got the much wanted 3 points in the league but the performance is much improved week by week. With last night's win I am sure our first league win is around the corner.

Sahin had a good game, scoring both goals, but same goes for the other players as well. Pacheco hit the bar and had forced Foster to make some fantastic saves and Assaidi was lively down the left flank. Hendo was very steady at the heart of midfield. Coates looked as though he had partnered Carra for a couple of seasons. Brad Jones, albeit his early mistake did recover with a commanding performance in goal. Overall everyone performed very well.

It was a good win but we must not get too carried away. It will be a long season and we will see the players making some mistakes as the season goes by. They are not perfect yet, but it is promising. Under Brendan Rodgers, if he can remain as the boss, I can see Liverpool challenging for honors at the very top level in 3 years to come.

You'll Never Walk Alone.
