LFC : Reds cruised to another win

The Reds chalked up another win at Anfield earlier today with a 3-0 result against Newcastle. Goals from Maxi, Kuyt (pen) and Suarez not only secured the win but leapfrogged Tottenham on goal difference to be on 5th placing, although they still have a game in hand.

It wasn't a stroll in the park as Liverpool were made to work hard by Newcastle United. Liverpool were boosted by the return of England International, Glen Johnson back into the starting line-up. This means Robinson had to be demoted to the subs bench although he played handsomely last week. Simple reasoning from the gaffer, age factor and the fact that Glen had more experience made it reasonable for him to bench the young full-back.

Maxi opened the account on the 10th minute but Liverpool never really managed to add more until half time. Scoring opportunity was anyhow plenty from both sides.

Maxi scoring the 1st goal

Second half started and players from both sides just picked-up from where they left 45 minutes earlier. 13 minutes into the second half Luis Suarez hassled Williamson until he managed to get hold of possession inside Newcastle's penalty box only he was later fouled. Match official Peter Walton had no choice to award Liverpool with a penalty.

Ice 'Cool' Kuyt

Kuyt, scoring his 14th goal of the season and his 8th from his 7th league outing sent Krul to the wrong direction to make it 2-0.

Kuyt celebrating

On the 65th minute, Kuyt from the scorer turns provider. Luis Suarez made a run and tried to beat a defender before the ball was deflected to Kuyt. Suarez never stops running which Kuyt cooly played the ball back to Suarez which was not mark inside the 6 yard box. He could never miss a chance like that. An assist from the Dutch Master and a brilliant run from Maxi to create space for Suarez.

Close range finish from Suarez
Game over for Newcastle United.

Andy Carroll was later brought in with 20 minutes left, replacing Maxi. I was hoping that Liverpool might score more but it wasn't to be. Only Meireles was close to adding to the score after he bravely dived in and head the ball away from Krul's left-hand post.

Great result, great team play and a great weekend. Lucas and Jay Spearing played brilliantly yet again. After Everton's draw and Arsenal beat United it was truly a great weekend. 3 games left to play and we just need to keep it going. Let's just concentrate on picking up points and hope that we could gather enough to qualify for Europe next season.

After United's lost, I have to say maybe, just maybe this season will be the most dramatic season after all. Dare to say Chelsea to win the league and Liverpool to qualify for Champions League??? Maybe it's just a dream :)
