Bringing back the old ways for the future

Merseyside derby, Anfield, 400th appearances for the Reds, a hat-trick, a tremendous team performance, a clean sheet and I can go on and on. Not enough words or vocabulary to describe how good Liverpool was last night. We do not need to mention Steven Gerrard anymore as he has been doing this for so many times.

Only 3 days ago we slumped to a 0-1 defeat to Sunderland and everyone was so upset. Some fans already demanded the owner to find someone else to replace King Kenny after the result. Many blamed the players for not performing as what have been expected of them.

Like many of my previous posts, I kept on saying (and I'm not the only one who is saying this) Liverpool FC is still not a finished product. Yes it is true Kenny did set a target to finish 4th but the season has not ended and yet so many people are already in a "panicky" mode.

Well, it was proven after last night's result, Kenny's 'haters' seems to vanish in thin air. Everyone was happy with the result even though we are still 10 points adrift 4th place Arsenal.

Looking back at the start of the season until last night's game, I honestly believed that Liverpool FC is slowly getting back to their best. Apart from the results, I think performance wise, the team has been doing better now compared to the 1st half of the season. Although results during the 1st half of the season is much better.

At least, we still have a chance to finish 4th, this depends on how the team performs in their remaining league fixtures of course, we are still in the FA Cup and we have secured the 1st trophy after 6 long years. The same time last year, can anyone tell me where we were? Tell me this is not 'progress'.

Looking back at game by game basis, I also think that Liverpool did not perform up to expectations only for 3 games. The lost to Spurs early in the season, then the lost to Bolton and recently, the lost to Sunderland. For the other games, I think Liverpool were 'unlucky' not to put the ball into the back of the net. Otherwise we would be in a better standing in the table by now.

Liverpool were in a deep trouble when Kenny took over. He had to build from scratch the once 'dynasty' that he had when he was managing Liverpool 20 years ago. The players he had do not play the game as he wanted or as Liverpool FC should play. When last season ends, he brought in new players and together with the existing ones, he had to teach them how Liverpool FC should play.

Playing for Liverpool is never easy and I believe players like Downing, Adam and Henderson can vouch for this. The expectations are much higher than they were used to at their old clubs. In Liverpool, the microscope is 'active' 24/7. In Liverpool they need to be performing at the highest level week in week out. They can play superbly in one weekend and falter on the next. There's no consistency. The only consistency that they have was to create chances but not scoring them and this has taken away some of the confidence in the squad.

I do admit that we need a proven striker as an addition to the team. But will we question Carroll and the team if they can perform and score as they did  against Everton? Or if they can play when they beat Man United in the FA Cup tie, Chelsea and City in the Carling Cup?

I believe Kenny have the right formula to create back the Dynasty Liverpool once had. He will admit that he might have made some mistakes this season. But Kenny is a genius in the footballing world. Like the players too, he is improving his managing skills. I'm sure going into next season he would have corrected the mistakes that they have made.

Keep on believing and keep on giving our support will only spur our beloved team to greater success. We don't want to be another Chelsea, we don't want to be another Manchester United. We just need to be the Liverpool Football Club, the champions of Europe and England that ruled world of football once upon a time ago. Working together, we will definitely get back our crown.
