New manager, New setup, New hope

It has been nearly 3 month since I last posted anything here. The new BPL season will start in about a weeks time and I'm back blogging.

A lot has happened for the past 10 weeks or so. Kenny left, FSG appointed Brendan Rogers as the new manager. We have a new player in Fabio Borini, Agger and Carrol's transfer speculations and many more.

It was a different story compared to last summer when LFC and King Kenny looked busy during the transfer window. Downing, Henderson, Doni, Charlie Adam are among the new players that was brought in by the previous manager to bolster the existing squad.

Things didn't really worked out as planned. We finished the league in 8th position but won the league cup and was involved in another cup final which we lost. I don't think it was a total disaster. For a club like Liverpool FC, finishing 8th was obviously not enough. But looking back at where we were before Kenny came in, it could have been much worst.

Kenny steadied the rocking ship. He brought back confidence. But eventually being out from the game for so long couldn't really helped Kenny in terms of results. At times, the team played fantastically. United, City, Chelsea were bullied. But plenty of last season's game they just couldn't finish their move.

The foundation was there, laid by the King.

Came in Brendan Rodgers. Young and ambitious. Maybe this is what we need. Someone with new ideas and eager to achieve success. He grasped the 'Liverpool way' straight away. All of the talks of him with his 'style' of football was something that made me believe that he could be 'the one'.

So far he has brought in only 1 player in Fabio Borini.

Last night, Liverpool 3 FC Gomel 0 (Liverpool won on aggregate 4-0). I was impressed with what I saw and I liked it a lot.

Lucas looked as though he never got injured. Gerrard, played with more purpose (lots of game last season he seemed lost), Downing, he looked dangerous. Borini and Suarez, just magnificent. The team played good football.

During Dalglish's time last season they looked dangerous going offensively. Defensively not so sound. That is why they tend to lose focus and confidence when they concede a goal. Playing splendid football for 80 minutes then 1 mistake they let in 1 goal resulting them to a lost. It happened so many times last season.

But like I have said earlier, KD did lay down the foundation. Rodgers, with mainly the same squad as last season just tweaked a few things here and there.

What I liked about last night's win was the way they were pressing the opponents. They will pressure the opposition until they make a mistake in conceding possession. The reds will pick up the lose ball and build another offensive move. Well it is still 'work in progress'. The current team might lose the ball as quickly as they get it, but once they lose the ball the shape of the team changes and they start pressing again.

It'll be better if they can keep the ball much longer. We were lucky because there was not enough quality in FC Gomel's side but it could have been a different story if we were against a stronger and more technical side.

You can't afford to lose possession easily because it'll be difficult to get it back. But if they can improve on this, I don't see any reason why Liverpool can't be a force to be reckon with.

It's going to be an interesting season with Rodgers and the way he wants his team to play.Yes the owners didn't put any high expectation but I wouldn't be surprise if this current team can end the season in a high. Liverpool do have quality players. With good foundation and a lil' brush up from Rodgers we might get more than what we hoped for.

For now, don't get too excited. Lets just be patient and see what happens next.
